Spurs vs Celtics Prediction

The San Antonio Spurs and the Boston Celtics duke it out at the TD Garden on Sunday night.

The San Antonio Spurs have been in a rut as they’ve lost five of their last six games overall and they will be hoping to snap a three-game slide after getting routed by the Wizards in a 136-124 road loss on Friday. Keldon Johnson led the team with 30 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, Keita Bates-Diop added 20 points on eight of 13 shooting while Doug McDermott chipped in with 18 points off the bench. As a team, the Spurs shot 50 percent from the field and 13 of 38 from the 3-point line as they kept pace with the Wizards in a close contest, until the fourth quarter where they got outscored by 37-26 to allow the Wizards off the hook in the end.

Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been in fine form as they’ve won six of their last eight games overall and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after making light work of the Pacers in a 120-95 home win on Friday. Jayson Tatum led the team with 37 points on 13 of 24 shooting, Jaylen Brown added 27 points with seven rebounds and four assists while Derrick White chipped in with 22 points and nine assists. As a team, the Celtics shot 47 percent from the field and 18 of 42 from the 3-point line as they went back and forth with the Pacers in a tightly contested first half, before they finally broke free in the second half where they outscored the Pacers by 60-40 to make it look easy in the end.

Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 7-22 ATS in their last 29 road games, 1-5 ATS in their last six Sunday games and 7-21 ATS in their last 28 games overall. The Celtics are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games playing on one days rest.

Head to head, the over is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings overall, the Spurs are 19-6-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings overall and the Spurs are 17-4-1 ATS in the last 22 meetings in Boston.

The Spurs could be shorthanded again as Malaki Branham, Romeo Langford and Keldon Johnson are all questionable, while the Celtics are keeping eyes on Payton Pritchard and Jayson Tatum who are both questionable. The Spurs are continuing to rest different players on different nights as they gear towards the upcoming NBA Draft, so I don’t give them too much of a chance against this Celtics team who should be too good even if Tatum isn’t able to suit up. The Spurs hold the edge in betting trends, but they seem to be in full tank mode, so I’m backing the Celtics to take advantage here.
