The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cleveland Indians meet Wednesday in MLB action from Progressive Field. This will be the second installment in a quick two-game set between these teams this week. In the Tuesday matchup, the Cardinals powered out a two-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

St. Louis played the Reds over the weekend, falling on Friday and Saturday before a Sunday win 10-6. In the Tuesday game versus Cleveland, the Cards had eight team hits in the 4-2 victory. Starter Adam Wainwright was solid on 7.0 innings, four hits, two walks and two earned.

For the starter job in the Wednesday game, the Cardinals will send out Kwang-hyun Kim. Over his 84.1 innings this year Kim has 71 hits, 30 runs (27 earned), six homers allowed, 28 walks, 67 Ks and a 2.88 ERA.

Over on the Indians’ side, they played the Rays over the weekend and didn’t have much luck, losing three of the four games. On Tuesday, Cleveland had a brief lead but it evaporated in the seventh inning. Cal Quantrill put up 6.0 innings with one earned on four hits.

For the starter job on Wednesday, the Rays will send out Zach Plesac. This year so far Plesac is 5-3 with a 4.30 ERA, 48 strikeouts and 75.1 innings over 13 starts.

The Cardinals are 5-2 in their last seven in game two of a series and 6-16 in their last 22 road games. The under is 4-1 in St. Louis’ last five Wednesday games and 6-2-1 in their last nine in game two of a series.

Meanwhile, the Indians are 5-2 in their last seven at home versus a lefty starter and 1-4 in their last five Wednesday games. Cleveland is 2-8 in their last 10 in game two of a series and the over is 10-3-1 in their last 14 in game two of a series.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Cardinals, so long as their offense shows up. Plesac has done fairly well recently, logging nine earned runs in his last 16.2 innings of work over three starts. As for Kim, he’s only given up three earned over his last five starts, a span of 30.0 innings. I like both guys to pitch reasonably well here, but I think St. Louis has the edge if they can get the bats going.
