Stars vs Bruins Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

The Bruins have struggled since the All-Star break and suddenly look vulnerable on home ice, which seemed unthinkable for most of the season. Today, they welcome the NHL's best offense to town as the Stars look to upset their hosts.

It’s not the homestand the Boston Bruins were looking for coming out of the All-Star break.

With four straight losses and just a single win in six games at TD Garden, the Bruins — who’ve fallen out of top spot in the East — try to stop the skid when they host the Dallas Stars this afternoon.

Dallas is on a different trajectory, ripping off an 8-1-2 mark over its last 11 to claim the top spot in the Central Division, yet it's a +105 moneyline underdog in the NHL odds.

How does this one play out in Beantown? Read below for my free Stars vs. Bruins NHL picks, complete with the best bet for Monday, February 19.

Stars vs Bruins predictions

When it rains it pours, as the Boston Bruins found out in their last game, a 5-4 OT loss to the Los Angeles Kings. It was their fourth straight loss, the longest such skid this season.

Boston built up a 3-1 lead with seven minutes to play in the second, but that evaporated less than six minutes into the third period. A goal by Trent Frederic still had the B’s up, but Anze Kopitar’s tally with 1:35 in regulation took it to overtime, where Brandt Clarke ended it with less than 30 seconds to play.

Since shutting out the Canucks 4-0, Boston has been outscored 15-7 over its last four contests. That 3.75 goals-against average is a far cry from its Top-5 ranking for the season, allowing just 2.64 goals per game.

Of course, that dip in defense happens to coincide with the NHL’s top-scoring team coming to town.

The Dallas Stars are putting up 3.75 goals per game, and they’ve been even more lethal during this fun run, tallying 4.27 goals over the last 11. Their success has pushed them to three points up on the Colorado Avalanche for the top spot in the Central.

The Bruins have dominated this series, having won three straight and six of the last seven, including a 3-2 win this season as +127 underdogs in Dallas.

But context matters in this instance, and the Stars — who boast a 17-6-4 road record, the second-most road wins in the West — are catching Boston at the right time.

The juice is better for an outright win, but the winning play here is to have to take the Stars to stay within two goals.

My best bet: Stars +1.5 (-225 at BetMGM)

Stars vs Bruins same-game parlay

Stars +1.5

Matt Duchene anytime goal

David Pastrnak anytime goal

Matt Duchene has been on a nice run, recording four straight multi-point games for the Stars, including goals in three straight games.

He had a game-tying goal and two assists against Edmonton after potting two tallies in their previous win over Nashville.

He had one and one against Carolina, and two assists against Montreal. He’s as strong a candidate as any to stay hot against Boston.

Let’s make this a three-legged SGP by adding Bruins stud David Pastrnak, whose 34 goals and 45 assists have him fourth in league scoring.

Pastrnak has points in six of the Bruins’ seven games out of the All-Star break, including a pair of goals. He has scored two goals in the last three games against the Stars.

Stars vs Bruins moneyline and Over/Under analysis

Despite their recent struggles, the Bruins have been favorites against the Stars since lines opened. Boston has been as long as a -154 moneyline favorite, but the books have plenty of variance, with their shortest odds at -120.

The Stars had been pegged as long as +125 underdogs, but that figure is long gone, with the majority of sites settling in anywhere between +105 and +115.

As for the total, you can still find 5.5 goals, not bad when the NHL’s highest-scoring team is involved. Other books have moved this to six goals.

Dallas owns the best Over record in the NHL at 34-20-1, while the Bruins have seen the Over cash just 26 times in 55 games this season. Over the last 10 head-to-head meetings, the Under is 8-2-0.
