Stars vs. Penguins prediction, odds, pick, how to watch

The Dallas Stars go back on the road as they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins. This game will continue our NHL odds series as we hand out a Stars-Penguins prediction and pick. We will also let you know how to watch the game.

The Stars have not lost a game in regulation this season. In fact, they only have one loss, and it came in a shootout. Only one of their games have finished within the 60 minutes, as well. Joe Pavelski is the leading scorer for the Stars this season. He has put in three goals to go along with two assists. His five points lead the team, as well. Dallas allows just 2.25 goals per game, so their goaltenders have been playing some very good hockey.

The Penguins have started the season off 2-3, and they are coming off back-to-back road losses. Evgeni Malkin is having a fantastic year in his 18th NHL season. He has four goals to go along with four assists. His eight points are ninth in the NHL. Jake Guentzel leads the team with five assists. The Penguins allow 3.20 goals per game, and their save percentage is .906.

Jake Oettinger is expected to be in net for the Stars. Tristan Jarry should be the starting goaltender for the Penguins.

Why The Stars Will Cover The Spread/Win

Dallas does a very good job in net, and they have one of the best goaltenders starting this game. As a team, the Stars allow just 2.25 goals per game, so it does not matter who is in net, they will always get a good showing. However, Jake Oettinger allows just 1.58 goals per game, and his saver percentage is .943. He is one of the best in the sport, and he has been showing it all season. It is never an easy task going up against Malkin, Sydney Crosby, and Erik Karrlson, but Oettinger should be up to the challenge.

Why The Penguins Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Penguins have not been great this season. They are off to a slow start, but they have a chance to turn it around. In all of their wins, the Penguins have scored more than three, and given up two or less. In all of their losses, they have given up at least four goals. At some point the Penguins need to find a way to win in those circumstances, but the good news is the Stars do not score a whole bunch. There is a chance the Penguins can allow less than three goals in this game, and that will help them cover the spread.

Final Stars-Penguins Prediction & Pick

I do not see the over hitting in this game. Both teams are pretty good in goal, and I think less than seven total goals are scored in this one. With that said, I think the Penguins do end up covering the spread. All they have to do is keep this game within a goal, and there is a very good chance of that. Not only is this a home game for the Penguins, but the Stars have only played one game that ended in regulation. I will take Pittsburgh to cover.

Final Stars-Penguins Prediction & Pick: Penguins +1.5 (-225), Under 6.5 (-122)
