State senator files bill for casino resorts, sports betting in select Texas cities including San Antonio

There's a push in the state capitol for legal casinos and sports betting in Texas. State Sen. Carol Alvarado (D-Houston) filed bill SJR 17 in legislature. If passed, the bill would authorize and regulate casino gaming at a limited number of destination resorts and facilities in select Texas cities.

Dan Patrick has opposed any form of legalized gambling in state. Texas is one of 14 states that have not approved legalized sports betting. The legislative session starts on January 10. Senator Carol Alvarado is optimistic about the bipartisan support for the bill. She believes it will bring jobs and money to Texas and keep millions of dollars in it. It was the first time that both a Democrat and a Republican sponsored the legislation.
