Still No MA Sports Betting Timeline After Latest Commission Meeting

The timeline for legal sports betting launch in MA remains unclear. Online sportsbetting operators prefer a universal start date. DraftKings is not accepting of a retail sports Betting launch before online.

The MA Gaming Commission has run into several logistical hurdles. The most recent hurdle is a legislative loophole with regard to temporary licenses. It would open the possibility that several temporary-license entities would need to shut down operations in six months to a year's time.

There is still no timeline for the MA Sports Betting Commission meeting. Temporary licenses pose problems for operators. They need to be secured to prevent them from closing down.

Some MA sports betting operators want to launch their business at retail first. MGM Springfield, Encore Boston Harbor, WynnBet and Plainridge Park can offer retail sportsbooks.

DraftKings wants a universal date for both retail and online sports betting. BetFred says it could take 9-12 months to get its online operation up and running.
