Stud outfielder named Yankees’ top power-hitting prospect

For the second year in a row, Jasson Dominguez is the New York YankeesNo. 2 prospect.

And for the second year in a row, Dominguez is teasing fans with his skills at the plate.

MLB.com identified the top power-hitting prospect for each club. When it came to the Yankees, Dominguez was the choice.

Perhaps the most hyped international prospect ever, Domínguez landed a $5.1 million bonus when he turned pro out of the Dominican Republic in 2019, in part because of his ability to crush balls from both sides of the plate. He has the potential for at least solid tools across the board and slashed .273/.375/.461 with 16 homers and 37 steals last year while reaching Double-A at age 19.

Dominguez made his first-ever start with the big-league club on Saturday. And the 20-year-old made the most of his opportunity, slugging a home run vs. the Philadelphia Phillies.

NJ Advance Media’s Bob Klapisch reported Yankees manager Aaron Boone was impressed with Dominguez.

“Just good quality at-bats,” the manager said of Dominguez’ 1-for-3 performance. “You can tell the guy has a real understanding and ease of the strike zone. Like, there’s no panic up there. He’s a confident kid that likes playing the game amongst friends.”

According to Klapisch, “Chances are he’ll begin 2023 back at Class-AA – the young slugger only made it to Somerset for their final five games last September – but barring any setbacks he’ll be at Class-AAA by July or August.”
