Supercomputer predicts big Gold Cup upset with British horse to turn over massive Irish favourite

A SUPERCOMPUTER has predicted a massive upset in the Gold Cup - and a winner for Britain!

Ireland have dominated jump racing's biggest contest by winning the past four renewals.

You have to go back to Native River in 2018 for the last home-grown champion.

But boffins at MyBettingSites have crunched the numbers and discovered it looks like being good news for Paul Nicholls.

The Ditcheat trainer enjoyed a brilliant win with Stage Star in the Turners Novices' Chase on Thursday.

But it's the big one he wants and it's his big gun he is firing at it.

Experts think his King George winner Bravemansgame will win the Gold Cup.

The computer, which analysed traits from all past Gold Cup winners, determined that Bravemansgame best matches the description of past winners.

The horse's age, trainer and starting price are taken into account.

You might have a different opinion if you delve a little deeper into form, strength of opponents beaten and suitability for the track.

But there is no doubt Bravemansgame, who is owned by DJ John Dance and Bryan Drew and around a 7-1 shot, looks a good fit.

And Nicholls knows what it takes to train one, having won jump racing's most prestigous contest four times before.

Should that prediction prove accurate then it will be an upset against big Irish favourite Galopin Des Champs.

He is around 15-8 to triumph, having looked to prove he will relish the tough finish up that famous Cheltenham hill.

Mind you, given the success of owners called John in the race, don't discount Protektorat too at around 16-1.

Co-owned by Sir Alex Ferguson, cuddly toy titan Jon Hales is another of the owners.

The Manchester United legend could be among a group celebrating a £350,000 payday.
