Tancred Stakes at Rosehill Tips, Race Previews and Selections

$1.5 million goes on the line when a smart field of stayers steps out in Saturday’s Group 1 Tancred Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

Multiple Group 1 winners are engaged, and with plenty of different form lines leading into the race, the Tancred Stakes looms as a terrific betting contest.

I’ve had a deep dive into the form of the fourteen horses remaining in contention, and you can find my 2023 Tancred Stakes Tips below.

Suggested Bets

  • 3 Units E/W #9 Cleveland
  • Boxed Trifecta of the selections below

Tancred Stakes – Winner

If last weekend taught my anything, it’s that European raiders are enormous in Australia in autumn.

If Any Joseph O’Brien horse in Australia has taught me anything, it’s back them!

Cleveland has accepted into the Tancred Stakes field of the exciting Irish horseman, and his best form would certainly see him hard to beat.

He has made just eight career starts, but Cleveland has recorded two wins and as many second placings, and he has found form around some genuine stars.

I like that his campaign is being launched over the 2400m, Kerrin McEvoy rides, and we can have an each way play at around the $10 mark.

Suggested Bet: No. 9 Cleveland

Tancred Stakes – 2nd

I thought he was fair without threating in last week’s Ranvet Stakes, and Gold Trip can fight out the finish of the Tancred third-up on Saturday.

The Outstrip entire continued to improve with each start and as the bar was raised during his Australian debut prep, culminating in an incredible win in the Melbourne Cup.

His fresh performance for second in the Peter Young suggested he’s come back in excellent order, and I think that the mile and a half is going to prove ideal at this point of his preparation.

Suggested Bet: No. 1 Gold Trip

Tancred Stakes – 3rd

I think that Sir Lucan is another one that can have an impact third-up and over 2400m in the Tancred Stakes.

The Camelot gelding spent more than a year away from the races after finishing down the order in Verry Elleegant’s Melbourne Cup, but returned with a dominant performance and win in this year’s Randwick City Stakes.

He was third, beaten the flare of a nostril in the NE Manion Cup last time out, and I’m confident he’ll be stepping out this week in peak order.

Suggested Bet: No. 8 Sir Lucan

Tancred Stakes – 4th

Why not?

The 2019 Melbourne Cup winner did have a couple of quiet seasons after his memorable win, but he returned to form last spring, claiming the Zipping Classic most notably.

His two runs back this time have been excellent, finishing second behind Right You Are on both occasions, and I’m expecting him to find his best under the conditions of the Tancred Stakes.

Suggested Bet: No. 3 Vow And Declare
