TCU last won a national championship in the 1939 Sugar Bowl. The Horned Frogs beat Carnegie Tech 15-7. TCU is playing Georgia in a College Football Playoff national championships game on Monday. The team is fresh off a stunning upset of Michigan. It is the first time in five years that the game has been played between teams from outside the SEC. In 1936, the Horns edged LSU 3-2 in another Sugarbowl. They won the national title in 1938. Their last national champion was in 1935. Carnegie Mellon University merged with the Mellon Institute in 1967.
