TEMPLEGATE is getting stuck in to a brilliant end to the Flat season - and the start of the jumps - with his latest ante-post tipping column.

The veteran looked his age earlier this season but has turned his form around ever since his close-up fourth in a hot handicap at York four starts ago.

His run at The Curragh last weekend only boosts confidence.

The Irish track is not the best for sprinters that like to come with a late rattle.

And it wasn’t a shock to see him finish fourth after trying to pick his way through a wall of horses.

Right call on Con Hill

I know there’s been some gnashing of teeth about Constitution Hill staying over hurdles this season but I think Nicky Henderson and connections are doing the right thing.

He is a brilliant hurdler who has already won the Champion and there isn’t a horse in that sphere who can get within ten lengths of him when he’s fully wound up.

Chasing is a totally different game and the Hill’s slick hurdling style may not be suited to the bigger obstacles.

There’s also some logic in the view that a horse that tanks along so well over 2m4f may struggle to maintain the gallop over almost a mile further in the Gold Cup – with the extra exertion of jumping fences thrown into the bargain.

You can cash in on the decision to stay hurdling.

William Hill are offering evens that Constitution Hill stays unbeaten next season.

That seems a pretty big price to me as he’ll be wrapped in cotton wool and there’s nothing emerging from the novice ranks to give him sleepless nights.
