Tennessee sports betting grows, tops $500 million for first time last month

Tennessee sportsbooks took in a record $517.1 million in total bets last month, topping a half billion dollars in the monthly betting handle for the first time since Tennessee began legalized sports betting three years ago, according to the Tennessee's Sports Wagering Advisory Council.

With college and NFL football seasons in full force, legalized sports betting continued to grow this fall to record high levels across Tennessee. Legalized sports betting is projected to top $4 billion in 2023, generating more than $75 million of state tax revenue. Last year, wagers bet $3.85 billion on legal online sports bets, adding $68.1 million in state tax collections.

Tennessee legalized sports betting in May 2019, and the state's first online bets were placed Nov. 1, 2020.
