'The greatest sporting event I've ever seen'

Argentina's World Cup final victory over France is one of the greatest sporting events ever seen. The Australian Open, Mo Farah's 10,000m gold medal and Japan's 32-34 win over South Africa are also included in the list.   The greatest cricket match of all time was the epic five-day Test match. England won the World Championship in cricket. Australia's tennis tournament is also a contender. It's followed by the 2008 Wimbledon and the 2012 Olympic Games.

Argentina's victory over France was seismic. Carlos Brathwaite's T20 World Cup victory in Kolkata in 2016 was also seminal. Japan's women's team won the World Championship in 2011. They fought back twice late against the United States. They won on penalties. The game was played in front of a stunned Frankfurt crowd. It was a match that has been dedicated to retelling. There are books and a documentary dedicated. to it. Some World Cups are decided by superstars. Other times it's the lesser-known players who make the difference.

Red Rum beat Crisp in the 1973 Grand National. CrisP was a Champion Chaser carrying 12st. Red Rum went on to become the greatest National horse of all time.   He took 20 seconds off a track record which had stood for 40 years.

Leyton Orient won the promotion play-off final against Wrexham in 1989. Lee Harvey and Mark Cooper scored twice to secure a 2-1 win. A man next to us had his glasses smashed by an errant shot from an Orient player in the warm up. Harlequins won a thrilling game against Exeter Chiefs at Twickenham 40-38.

Hibernian won the Scottish Cup in 1902. It took them another 114 years to win it again in May 2016. Andy Halliday put Rangers 2-1 up but Anthony Stokes levelled it. David Gary scored in stoppage time to give Hibs a 3-2 win.
