The most successful male players in the history of the Australian Open

The Australian Open starts on January 16th and ends on the 29th. Rafael Nadal is the current champion. Novak Djokovic is favourite to win the tournament.   The website OddsChecker has made the Serbian superstar the favourite for the crown this year. The winner will be announced on February 1st. It is a grand slam of the year and the first grand slams starts from January.

The Australian Open is the first major tennis tournament of the year. The inaugural tournament was held in Melbourne in 1905. Anthony Wilding won the men's singles title. May Sutton won women's title in the women't singles.   The most successful male players in Australian Opens are:

Novak Djokovic has won the Australian Open a record nine times. He dominated the tournament in the last decade, winning seven titles between 2011 and 2020. Djkovic's biggest wins have come against Andy Murray in 2011 final and Rafael Nadal in 2012 and 2013 finals.

Roger Federer has won the tournament six times. His first victory came in 2004 and he went on to win three more titles between 2006 and 2010. He won back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018 at the age of 36. In 2018, Federe won a record-equalling sixth title.

Roy Emerson won the Australian Open six times. He won his first title in 1961 and went on to win five consecutive titles between 1963 and 1967. His biggest win came against Rod Laver in the 1964 final.

Andre Agassi won the Australian Open four times. His first victory came in 1995. Agassis and Pete Sampras were once considered to be the greatest tennis players of all time. Now they have been surpassed by the Fantastic Four: Djokovic, Nadal, Federer and Murray.
