Thirsk: Watching club cricket inside a racecourse

Thirsk Cricket Club is playing a match against Knaresborough in the final summer Bank Holiday of 2022. Thomas Lord, the driving force behind the creation of the world-famous Marylebone Cricket club ground, hailed from Thirske. The bar in Thirske's clubhouse has an ornate memorial plaque to Lord. It's on the wall to your right. The main grandstand, Hambleton Stand, dates from 1924. Thrske Museum is on Kirkgate, on same street as its better-known World of James Herriot counterpart.
