Toyota is trying to stop new-car “scalpers” from pushing up prices
Toyota Australia wants to introduce regulations to discourage opportunistic resellers who sell near-new cars for more than the recommended retail price. The company is investigating the legalities of Australian Consumer and Competition Law to find a solution. The practice is illegal in Australia. Some car dealerships insist customers sign a document agreeing to not on-sell the car for a quick profit. It is not illegal for Toyota Australia to do this. Toyota wants customers to pay a fair and reasonable price based on the manufacturer’s retail prices. They want to avoid customers paying over the odds.
