Transaction Analysis: York & Foerster Among Camp Roster Reductions

The Flyers reduced the training camp roster from 44 to 34 players. The roster includes 20 forwards, 10 defensemen and four goalkeepers. Joel Farabee is expected to be medically cleared to return early in the regular season and possibly for opening night.

Tortorella explains the decision to send York back to the Phantoms. He believes it's not about skill development per se but about mental development. York is still a young player and needs to mature quicker than others. He is capable of being an NHL impact player. The head coach believes that York's mental toughness is lacking. It's important to focus on developing his physical skills.   T Tortorello believes York needs more experience in the minor leagues. His team needs him to improve his mental game. They need to develop his defensive skills as well. This is important for the development of the team.

Tyson Foerster was selected by the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He impressed at the NHL Camp. Foerser is a 2020 first-round pick. The 20-year-old is expected to play a lot of games with Lehhigh. He has room to improve his two-way game. His best performance came in the preseason opener against Boston.

Olle Lycksell was one of the biggest standouts in Rookie Camp. He was assigned to the Phantoms (AHL). Lyckssell has already played in the SHL and has good experience. The 23-year-old's next challenge is to carve out a role for the Flyers at the NHL level.

Max Willman is on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the Phantoms (AHL). Will man played 41 games in the NHL with the Flyers last season. Will be a utility player for Laperriere in a variety of different lines and deployment scenarios.

Adam Brooks is on waivers for the purposes of assignment to the Phantoms (AHL). Brooks was signed this offseason and is competing with Willman for an NHL recall. Brooks has been waived and claimed on four separate occasions during the 2021-22 season.

Adam Ginning, the Flyers' 2018 second-round pick, was sent to the Phantoms. Adam Karashik, who played for the Philadelphia Phantomans last season, will report to Allentown camp. He will work with Phantomatic's assistant coach Jason Smith. York and Foerster were cut from the camp roster.

Louie Belpedio is on waivers for purposes of Phantoms assignment. The 26-year-old former Minnesota Wild prospect has mostly played at the AHL level but has dressed in a combined four NHL games since 2017-18. Avon missed the entire Rookie Camp due to injury and spent NHL Camp rehabbing on the ice with Angelo Ricci.
