Travers 2023: Updated odds for mid-summer derby at Saratoga

After Belmont Stakes winner Arcangelo attracted the early money, Eclipse Award winner Forte became the betting favorite in the final hour Saturday before Grade 1, $1.25 million Travers Stakes atSaratoga.

The Jim Dandy (G2) winner last month, Forte finally passed Arcangelo at about the same time as the win pool total passed $1 million. The colt sired by Violent, owned by Mike Repole and Vinnie Viola and trained by Todd Pletcher will be ridden as usual by Irad Ortiz Jr., who is the leading rider this summer at Saratoga.

These were the odds at 6:03 p.m. EDT:

Heavy, mid-afternoon rain fell for about 30 minutes at Saratoga, arriving before the start of the eighth race. Although the sun came out afterward, the main track was sealed, later harrowed and downgraded to good.

The 154th Travers going 1 1/4 miles will be the 12th raceSaturday with a post time of 6:11 p.m. EDT.
