Tuck sweatin': Mel Tucker faces his first Michigan State mini-crisis

Mel Tucker's team is on a 2-game losing streak. The team has already equaled last year's loss total. Michigan State won the Peach Bowl in 2021. The recruiting element remains true. However, the team's current state does not change the current situation. It is fair to wonder whether this season's ship can be righted.  It's fair for fans to question whether the ship's righting. it's not as if Tucker is under any real pressure right now.

The strength of a defense runs through the middle. The most important players on Michigan State's defense are defensive tackle Jacob Slade, middle linebacker Cal Haladay and safety Xavier Henderson. They have been injured recently. Michigan's defensive line was hurt against Washington and Minnesota. Quarterbacks Michael Penix and Tanner Morgan exploited the weakness of the defense.

Michigan State's pass defense was the worst in the country. Mel Tucker hired Brandon Jordan and one of his pupils, Windmon, to improve it. WindMon led the nation with 5.5 sacks. The first 2 games were a success. Now the Spartans are playing against Washington and Minnesota. They are giving up 10.1 yards per pass attempt.

Kenneth Walker III was the nation's second-leading rusher. Jalen Berger and Jarek Broussard are the replacement for Walker. Michigan State's offense is not built to handle the drop from being led by the No. 2 rusher to being the no. 77 rusher in the league.

The Spartans are losing 2 games in a row. They are playing against teams with good receiving corps and good offensive lines. Their next opponents are Maryland and Ohio State. Mel Tucker has a mini-crisis on his hands. He is trying to prevent it from morphing into a full-blown crisis. The team is playing Wisconsin for homecoming. The game is on November 14th.
