Tyler Herro injury: Heat guard ‘will attempt to play’ in Game 5 (report)

The Heat could get Tyler Herro back in the lineup Monday for a must-win Game 5 against the Denver Nuggets.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Miami guard is “is expected to dress and attempt to play.” Herro broke his hand in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The 23-year-old — who was the Heat’s second-best scorer in the regular season — put up 12 points against the Bucks before breaking his hand.

Herro, according to Wojnarowski, still has “a level of discomfort” in his hand, “but is hopeful to try to give the Heat what he can.”

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters last week that Herro was still checking boxes and had yet to be cleared for the NBA Finals, but was encouraged by the progress he was showing.

Offense has been inconsistent throughout the NBA Finals for the Heat with their stars unable to find the same groove they had against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. They’re shooting just 33% from 3-point range against Denver, including an 8-for-25 showing in Miami’s 109-94 Game 4 loss.
