Figueiredo vs Moreno will serve as the co-main event of UFC 283, while the headliner is Glover Teixeira vs Jamahal Hill, a fight for the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight title.

In addition to those two mega-fights, there are another three interesting matchups on the main card of UFC 283. We’re now going to analyze all of those fights, sharing our top picks along the way.

Schedule and How to Watch

  • Where: Jeunesse Arena, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

UFC 283 Predictions

Glover Teixeira vs Jamahal Hill

Forty-three years old Glover Teixeira (33-8) is coming back to the octagon some seven months after losing his UFC Light Heavyweight title to Jiri Prochazka. He was originally supposed to fight the Czech again for the title, but Prochazka had to vacate the title after suffering a shoulder injury.

As a result, Teixeira now has a seemingly easier job ahead of him. He is taking on Jamahal Hill (11-1-1) who’s 12 years his junior and who’s fought more than three times fewer fights than the Brazilian veteran.

Another major difference between these two is that Teixeira is much better on the floor than Hill, who’s still without a single submission win in his career. Hill’s takedown average is zero, but his takedown defense is pretty decent (65%). Still, the fact is that he has never fought a grappling expert such as Teixeira.

UFC Predictions:

Deiveson Figueiredo vs Brandon Moreno

This is going to be the fourth fight between Deiveson Figueiredo (21-2) and Brandon Moreno (20-6). Their first fight finished in a draw (after Figueiredo had a point deduction), and since, each has won one duel.

Moreno won the second fight with an impressive rear-naked choke submission, thus getting ahold of the UFC Flyweight title. However, a couple of months later, Figueiredo got it back with a win by unanimous decision. But who’s going to win the fourth Figueiredo vs Moreno fight?

Oddsmakers think it’s a coin toss – whatever happens in the co-main event of UFC 283 will not be a surprise. Still, we’re gonna go with Moreno in this fight. His cardio and willingness to fight to the very end might be crucial in the quadrilogy fight. Plus, we did see him put on a great performance in the interim title fight against Kai Kara-France last summer, which saw The Assassin Baby win by TKO.

UFC Predictions:

Gilbert Burns vs Neil Magny

Although Gilbert Burns (20-5) is fighting in the welterweight division, he’s significantly smaller than many other fighters in this weight class. For instance, he’s five inches shorter than his next opponent, Neil Magny (27-9).

One would think that the height difference can play a major role in this bout, but we doubt it. It’s just that Burns is a much better fighter than Magny. He’s a fantastic grappler who’s been great striking-wise lately. On top of everything, he’s got great stamina, the evidence being that each of his previous four fights went the distance.

He won two of those (vs Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson) and lost two (vs Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev). The fight against Usman was a title bout, in which he dropped the reigning champ at one point. In the fight against Chimaev, Burns landed more strikes than his opponent.

Magny will probably try to outbox Burns, keeping him at a distance and hoping for a win by decision. However, we’re almost 100% sure that won’t work. Instead, we expect to see Burns taking him down and putting him into submission quickly, perhaps even in Round 1.

UFC Predictions:

Jessica Andrade vs Lauren Murphy

Jessica Andrade is the biggest betting favorite of all the fighters on the main card of UFC 283. No surprise there as she’s 23-9 overall with wins against some real UFC legends, including Rose Namajunas, which won her the UFC Women’s Strawweight title back in 2019.

Since then, she’s fought a couple of flyweight fights as well, most notably, the UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship title against Valentina Shevchenko in 2021 (which she lost). Andrade returned to the strawweight division last April with a submission win over Amanda Lemos but has decided to switch back to flyweight at UFC 283.

She’s taking on Lauren Murphy (16-5) who’s coming off a huge win over Miesha Tate in which she bullied her opponent to a unanimous decision win. Murphy is big and strong, with the ability to stay on her feet for a long time. We think she’s going to pull through until the final bell against favored Andrade, although we doubt she’s going to win the judges’ votes.

UFC Predictions:

Paul Craig vs Johnny Walker

Paul Craig (16-5) is a jiu-jitsu expert who’s known for producing some major upsets in the past. For instance, he defeated Magomed Ankalaev by submission in the very last second of the fight. Something similar happened in his most recent win – against Nikita Krylov – last March.

The problem for Craig is that his next opponent is very hard to put into submission. Johnny Walker (19-7) is the man in question whose takedown defense is 58%. Will that be enough to tame Craig on Saturday? We do think so. Our prediction is that the fight is going to last all three rounds, with Walker grabbing a win by decision.
