Uncle Bryn will carry 52kg in next month's Caulfield Cup (2400m) after Racing Victoria handicapper David Hegan issued the gelding a 1kg penalty for his win in the MRC Foundation Cup (2000m).

The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained gelding put his rivals to the sword in a dominant performance that Hegan said deserved a penalty.

Uncle Bryn shortened into $17 with Sportsbet after Saturday's win but now occupies the seventh line of Caulfield Cup betting at $26.

"Uncle Bryn won the MRC Foundation Cup in effortless style running away, so the manner of the performance warranted a weight penalty in both Cups," Hegan said.

"Only two of his 15 starts in Australia have been at 2000m, both runs have been most impressive and rate highly.

"He ran second in last year's MRC Foundation Cup on a Heavy track, splitting subsequent Group 1 winners Smokin' Romans and Gold Trip, before going on to win the Listed Sale and Cranbourne Cups.

"He then went one better in the race on Saturday on a Good 3 surface and the winning time was just a tick outside the track record, which showed his class and versatility in all conditions."

The son of Sea The Stars was also re-handicapped to 52kg in the Melbourne Cup and moved to 90th in the order of entry, although he is yet to pass the first ballot clause for the iconic Flemington feature.

Should Uncle Bryn run in the top eight in the Caulfield Cup, he would pass the first ballot clause for the Melbourne Cup.

Hegan opted not to penalise Saturday's G2 Colin Stephen Quality (2400m) winner Athabascan in either the Caulfield or Melbourne Cups.

Second acceptances for the Caulfield Cup will be taken on Tuesday.
