Upcoming vote for MLB commissioner is ‘a foregone conclusion’ (report)

MLB commissionerRob Manfred is up for re-election. However, there’s reportedly little suspense surrounding the vote.

According to The Athletic, Manfred is expected to easily secure another term as the head of Major League Baseball.

“No doubt, there never was, It’s a foregone conclusion,” a person who was “briefed on the vote” told The Athletic.

Manfred has been at the helm of MLB during a turbulent time that saw a COVID lockdown in 2020, a lockout in 2022 and a wave of major changes to the rules in 2023, including the addition of the pitch clock.

The 64-year-old Manfred has taken heavy criticism during his time as commissioner. However, it’s reportedly done little to affect his job security, with The Athletic reporting that Manfred will have little trouble securing the majority vote he needs to stay in his position.

Manfred has served as MLB’s commissioner since 2014, when he took over for Bud Selig in 2014. Last week, he told The Athletic that he plans to run for re-election.

“I have what I regard to be the best job in the world,” Manfred said to The Athletic. “My current thinking is I’d like to continue to do it.”

Manfred’s current contract as commissioner runs through 2024.
