Uruguay vs Namibia prediction and odds

The opening game of week four of Rugby World Cup 2023 will see the only two sides in Pool A still without a win tussle to wipe their record and notch their first pool points of the tournament.

South America’s number two side will meet Africa’s number two side at the stunning OL Stadium in Lyon with plenty of running rugby and adventure on the cards.

Uruguay vs Namibia match predictions

This match will have little permutation on the state of Pool A, with the qualifiers all but decided, however, a victory in this fixture will mean the world to both sides and the respective bands of supporters will bring the passion and the noise in the hopes of pushing their team over the line.

Uruguay to win with a -17 handicap @ 10/11 (1.95)

Namibia have never won a game at the Rugby World Cup and, unfortunately for them, they won’t change that this year. The Namibian’s were always cursed with a tough group but Uruguay have exceeded their expectations at the tournament thus far, while Namibia have failed to meet theirs.

With the likes of Kessler, Ardao, Arata, Etcheverry and Freitas in red-hot form, -17 is a generous handicap here as Uruguay could easily hit a 20 or 30 point lead.

Nicolas Freitas to score the first try @7/1 (8.0)

This one is a no-brainer. Uruguay have scored three tries at this tournament and Freitas has two of them. The guy is electric and genuinely one of the best finishers at the tournament.

When Uruguay need a try they look to Freitas to deliver and when Freitas is lurking in space, he can be impossible to stop.

Uruguay vs Namibia preview – Teros to finish on a high or Welwitschias to grab unlikely upset?

These two teams have similar form records heading into this match but nonetheless are in two very different places.

Uruguay

Uruguay have lit up the competition this year, emerging as a surprise package when they pushed France all the way in round two and denied them a bonus point. They also showed flashes of brilliance last weekend in their loss to Italy but have remarkably failed to register a single losing point.

In truth, Uruguay would have hoped to beat, or at least push, Italy after really encouraging form heading into the tournament on top of their upset win over Fiji in the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Therefore, they will be aiming to not just beat but thoroughly blow away Namibia to redeem their tournament and be able to call it a success.

Namibia

Namibia will play their last game of the tournament this Wednesday after a gruelling schedule of four matches in just 18 days. They have also lost all their games, succumbing to heavy losses to France and New Zealand and will have highlighted this match versus Uruguay prior to the tournament as their best opportunity of leaving Rugby World Cup 2023 with a victory.

Namibia have qualified for every World Cup since 1999 and never won a match, only drawing with Georgia in 2007 and if form is to be trusted, they will face another long four year wait.
