US Open preview: Serena Williams' last hurrah at home grand slam headlines fascinating two weeks of tennis

Serena Williams is retiring after this year's US Open. Her final match will be played at the site of her first grand slam singles win, the 1999 US open. Williams won her opening match on Monday. She is also set to play her last doubles match with sister Venus on Wednesday. She has won 23 grand slams singles titles. Emma Raducanu is the defending USOpen champion. The tournament starts on August 14. It will take place at Flushing Meadows. Maria Sharapova is defending the women's singles title. she won it in 2013. In the men's event, Marin Cilic won the title, while Roger Federer won in the ladies' event.

Rafael Nadal is aiming for his 23rd grand slam title at the US Open. Nadel has played just one match since withdrawing from Wimbledon with an abdominal injury. Daniil Medvedev is the bookmakers' favorite to win the tournament. Alexander Zverev has pulled out of the draw due to injury and Novak Djokovic won't play at Flushing Meadows in 2022.
