The USWNT made it out of the Group Stage by the skin of their teeth.
A late-game shot by Portugal in their last match almost went in but was stopped by the goalpost. If that shot had gone, it would’ve been Portugal advancing to the Round of 16 instead of the US. A 0-0 tie with Portugal meant the US got second place in Group E and lived to play another day.

Sweden is the No. 2 team in the Women’s World Cup seedings behind the US at No. 1. But, while the US went 1-2-0 in their Group Stage games, Sweden was 3-0-0. They shut out both Italy (No. 14) and Argentina (No. 29) and beat South Africa (No. 54) 2-1.
