Virginia Tech football: Who did the Hokies land on early signing day?
The Virginia Tech Hokies wrapped up the early signing period on Wednesday by signing 19 players. Since the NCAA adopted the early signing period, there have been far fewer surprises, and there were none for the Hokies on Wednesday.
Tech signed 15 high-school players and four transfers. We’ve tracked every commitment since the start of the 2024 recruiting class, so instead of profiling every player, we’ll link you to our initial commitment article.
How did the Hokies do?
By design, Virginia Tech is taking fewer high school players and using the extra spots to focus on specific positions in the NCAA transfer portal. Last offseason, the Hokies landed multiple impact players via the portal, including Kyron Drones, Bhayshul Tuten, Jaylin Lane, Antwaun Powell-Ryland, Da’Quan Felton and Ali Jennings.
This time, the focus was on the offensive line and defensive tackle. Tech landed one offensive lineman last week and has brought several to campus. Expect head coach Brent Pry and his staff to continue focusing on adding one or two more offensive linemen. As far as a defensive tackle, Tech landed two of its top targets in Aeneas Peebles and Kemari Copeland. The Hokies will likely add another, so keep an eye on former Highland Springs star — and Oklahoma transfer — Kelvin Gilliam.
Virginia Tech wanted a middle linebacker who could start immediately and landed Middle Tennessee transfer Sam Brumfield.
Regarding the high school class, the Hokies signed a versatile group, landing help at every position except tight end, kicker and punter.
The big fish in this class were wide receiver Keylen “Brodie” Adams, linebacker Gabriel Williams and safety Quentin Reddish. However, this is a deep class despite only 15 players being signed.
VT signed three offensive linemen and three defensive linemen in addition to the transfers. Don’t be surprised if Pry and his staff have that focus moving forward, as linemen often need one or two years in the weight room before making the two deep.
The following 19 players are just the ones who signed on Wednesday. Virginia Tech can still add players via the transfer portal and by February’s national signing day.
