Wagering On U.S. Racing Highest Since 2009

$12.2 billion was wagered on horse racing in the U.S. in 2021. It's the highest amount since 2009. The industry hopes that gamblers will turn their attention to racing after COVID-19 is implemented. There were 4,072 race days in 2020, but only 3,302 in 21st. The average amount wageered per race day dropped from $3,307,976 to $ 3.000,591. Purses for the year were $1,180,853,677, a 35.77% increase over 2020.
