Wales 16-52 South Africa LIVE RESULT: Warren Gatland's side on end of THRASHING in Rugby World Cup warm-up

The reigning world champs ran in EIGHT tries including a penalty try to reek havoc on Warren Gatland's preparations for the big tournament next month.

  • Springboks fire warning to the world

South Africa have shown today that they do not plan to give up their World Cup crown easily.

They seem to have added more to their game since they won the trophy.

Always known as a strong, tough team they seem to have added that x-factor to their game.

This could be bad news for everyone else in next month's World Cup.

  • Sobering defeat for Welsh dragons

Things were looking up for Welsh rugby after their recent double header against England.

They played two games which they arguably should have won, losing the second in disappointing fashion.

However, the humbling heavy defeat today will get the coaches back to the drawing board once again.

  • South African open play dominance

One thing that can be learnt from today is how open Wales are to fast, open play rugby.

South Africa were able to draw in the challenges before releasing the ball, taking numbers out of the game.

When they did so, it left them with an overload on the flanks that the Welsh could not deal with.

  • Wales need new attacking playbook

Gatland's side are struggling to convert pressure into points.

So often they are working through the phases with the opponents try line in sight.

But all too often it does not lead to a try.

  • Gatland with work to do

Warren Gatland was quoted as saying his side do better when going into games as underdogs.

It did not work for them today.

Once he has decided upon his strongest side for the World Cup, they will need to work on phases of their game to surprise all in France.

  • Springboks show true class

South Africa showed why they are the reigning champions today.

Despite not being favourites for the World Cup next month, they have shown why they will still take some beating.

Their rugby today was devastating at times, a mixture of brute strength and pace......it will be difficult to stop.

  • Wales 9-31 South Africa

    53. As South Africa steal the ball with du Toit, he does not have the legs to go the length of the pitch.

He hands it off to Jesse Kriel and the two Welsh players cannot catch him.

Libbok converts to add some real distance between the two sides.
