Weights revealed for Irish Grand National with Ash Tree Meadow topping the ratings

The weights have been revealed for this year's Boylesports Irish Grand National.

Ash Tree Meadow tops the ratings on a mark of 159 and the Alymer Stud-owned eight-year-old will carry 11-12 when the 152nd edition of the famous race is held on April 1st.

One of 19 entries trained by Gordon Elliott, Ash Tree Meadow won the Galway Plate last August and has since added a couple of Grade two's to his ever growing resumé.

Last year's runner-up Gevrey has failed to finish a race since coming second at Fairyhouse a year ago. He is rated 9lb higher this time around on a mark of 143, which could see him carry 10-10 in 13 days time.

Three Cheltenham Festival 2024 winners are in the field (Corbetts Cross (11-10), Inothewayurthinkin (11-9) and Limerick Lace (11-7)) and are all remarkably owned by JP McManus.
Willie Mullins will be hoping to go back to back and follow up last year's win for I am Maximus in less than a fortnight's time. The legendary trainer is in flying form after surpassing the 100 winner mark at the Cheltenham Festival with a staggering nine victories at Prestbury Park last week.

Monkfish is another notable entrant and with a rating of 156, has been given a weight of 11-9 and is one of 14 possible entrants for Mullins. The two-time winner as a trainer will have much of his hopes pinned on Stattler who is rated at 158, meaning he could carry 11-11 on the day.

Peter Roe, General Manager at Fairyhouse Racecourse, said: “We are delighted with the quality of entries and that combined with three of them scoring at last week’s Cheltenham festival shows the standing of the BoyleSports Irish Grand National. Ticket sales are going really well for the three-days, especially Easter Monday and we are on track for a great festival and another renewal of the iconic BoyleSports Irish Grand National.”

Sharon McHugh, Head of PR & Sponsorship, BoyleSports, said: “Fresh off the back of a fantastic Cheltenham festival, we’re looking ahead to another brilliant renewal of the BoyleSports Irish Grand National. The race has once again attracted a cracking number of high-quality entries and the market has now taken shape following the release of the weights. We can’t wait to see who will triumph come Easter Monday.”
