West Ham are desperate for a win, and catching Manchester United on a short turnaround and in somewhat dormant form. See why our EPL picks are finding value in an upset Sunday.

West Ham take on Manchester United at the London Stadium on Sunday with both teams looking for some late-season breathing room.

The Hammers enter this fixture four points above the drop zone — and three straight losses, including a 3-0 defeat at Manchester City in midweek, means they’re not out of the woods yet.

Manchester United have a cushion of their own in their race to secure a Top-4 finish, but Erik ten Hag’s men were beaten late in stoppage time on Thursday by a Brighton side that’s joined Liverpool on the Red Devils’ heels.

Read on for our free West Ham vs. Manchester United EPL betting picks and predictions ahead of this key Sunday, May 7 showdown.

West Ham vs Manchester United picks and predictions

The London Stadium should be rocking on Sunday for what feels like a kitchen-sink game for the Hammers, especially with the prospect of two relegation six-pointers ahead against Leeds and Leicester if they slide any further towards the Bottom 3.

Despite their recent mini skid, West Ham are facing a Manchester United team that’s also looked vulnerable lately while blowing a two-goal lead against Tottenham and failing to score in 210 minutes against Brighton in league and cup action.

That makes this a real opportunity for the Hammers. They were missing key players in midweek as illness ruled out Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek, and Nayef Aguerd, but all three could be back on Sunday. Rice’s availability would be a big boost as the hosts try to limit the influence of Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

This is a quick turnaround for the visitors after the trip to Brighton and the disappointment of losing to a stoppage-time penalty. With Champions League qualification within touching distance, the Red Devils have seemingly slipped into cruise control and could be caught out on the road here if they don’t match the energy and physicality of the hosts.

With David Moyes sure to have his players fired up against his former employers, I’m taking these underdog odds for West Ham to bag the win that they desperately need.

West Ham vs Manchester United side analysis

Neither team arrives with much form to lean on — the Hammers have lost three in a row since thumping Bournemouth 4-0 on April 23, while Manchester United only have one win from their last five games.

The visitors have dominated this matchup in recent years, with West Ham’s last league win against the Red Devils coming in 2019, but ten Hag’s men have looked shakier on the road over the past month, including the 3-0 Europa League loss in Seville and the second-half lapses against Tottenham.

West Ham picked up some key wins last month amid erratic April performances, though defensive lapses remain a concern after allowing nine goals in their past three outings. But I see the hosts rallying here, and they’ve got the attacking weapons to hurt a reshuffled Manchester United back four, particularly with Michail Antonio and Luis Paqueta combining for seven goals in their last five games.

Luke Shaw again partnered Victor Lindelof in the center of the Red Devils’ defense on Thursday, but Harry Maguire may be considered on Sunday given the matchup against the physical Antonio.

West Ham vs Manchester United Over/Under analysis

West Ham were shut out by City on Wednesday but have otherwise been a consistent threat at that end of the pitch, with 14 goals in their final five games in April. The Hammers’ last six games have all cashed in the Over on 2.5 total goals, and four of them would have hit the Over on 3.5 total goals too.

But it’s a different story for Manchester United. The goals have dried up for the visitors, who’ve scored just three times across their last five games. Marcus Rashford has been the difference-maker against the Hammers in the past two league meetings, but neither Wout Weghorst nor Anthony Martial have offered enough in the central striker role.

It’s worth noting that three of the past four meetings between these teams have ended in a 1-0 scoreline, and the Red Devils’ 3-1 FA Cup win in January came courtesy of two last-gasp goals.
