What does shaky history of odds-on BC Classic favorites mean for Flightline?

Flightline is an odds-on favorite for the Nov. 5 Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland. There have been seven previous BC Classic favorites and only two of them won. i in the history of the Classic, only one of those horses has ever won the race.

Cigar won the title at Woodbine in 1996. He lost two of his previous three starts, including the Pacific Classic and Jockey Club Gold Cup.

Curlin was the favourite for the BC Classic at Santa Anita. He was beaten by two European horses and a local one. Flightline finished fourth in the 2008 edition.

American Pharoah won the BC Classic at Keeneland. Flightline is not a favourite.   American Pharoo was the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years.

Flightline is the favourite for the BC Classic. California Chrome is 6-for-6 on the season. Arrogate is a three-year-old favorite.
