What horses does Sir Alex Ferguson have at Cheltenham this year? Iconic Manchester United manager could win £400,000

Sir Alex Ferguson could be in for a special week at the Cheltenham Festival with many of his horses set to be running.

The former Manchester United manager loves horse racing and has invested lots of time and money into the sport since leaving football.

In total, Ferguson owns 32 horses and a handful of them will be involved next week…

Sir Alex will have six horses running at Cheltenham this year.

Protektorat, Hitman, L’Eau Du Sud, Sonigino, Monmiral and Il Ridoto will all be taking part.

First up at the festival for Ferguson will be Sonigino who will be running in the Coral Cup which takes place on Wednesday, March 13 at 2:50pm.

The horse will also be part of the final race of the festival - The Martin Pipe Handicap on Friday, March 15 at 5:30pm.

Monmiral is next for Ferguson the horse runs in the Pertemps Network Final, competing for £56,270 on Thursday, March 14 at 2:10pm.

Hitman and Protektorat both then run in the Ryanair Chase at 2:50pm with the winner of that race claiming a whopping £211,013.

Sir Alex has given a prediction for that race to the Thoroughbred Daily News, saying: “I think Hitman will do well.

“I just feel that he seems to die in the last couple of fences over three miles, but he's back running over two miles and four furlongs.

“He might just surprise people.”

Il Ridoto will also race on the same day in the TrustATrader Plate at 4:10pm, with the aim of receiving £67,524 for coming out on top.

L’Eau Du Sud is involved in Friday’s action, racing in the County Hurdle at 2:10pm with £56,270 the prize for the winner of that one.

Should a Ferguson-owned horse win each race they are in, the iconic football boss could leave Cheltenham with £400,000 in prize money.
