Will Mets’ Brandon Nimmo be ready for Opening Day?

Things are looking good for Brandon Nimmo.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that the New York Mets centerfielder did hitting, fielding and running on Tuesday and hopes play in the Mets’ final two Grapefruit League games.

Nimmo was injured on an awkward slide in the fourth inning of a Grapefruit League game against the Marlins last week with the Mets leading, 6-1. It appeared Nimmo caught his cleats and hurt his right ankle on the slide during an inning-ending double play. He limped slowly off the field.

He underwent imaging the next day which revealed sprains. He said Sunday it was a low-grade ankle and knee sprain, which he described as the best-case scenario.

Nimmo said Sunday, per SNY: “In my heart of hearts, yeah, I do think [I’ll be ready for Opening Day]. Obviously, we have to see how it goes, but yeah, right now I definitely think that I’ll be ready for Opening Day.”
