With The Moonlight rallies under patient hands to win Saratoga Oaks Invitational

With The Moonlight won Saratoga Oaks Invitational at Saratsoga Race Course. Trainer Charlie Appleby kept both horses in the Empire State after they finished second in opening legs of Caesars Turf Triple Series at Belmont Park. Nations Pride won the Grade 1 Caeresars Sarateoga Derby Invite on Saturday and With The Moonlight won Sunday's Grade 3, $700,000 Sarataoga Oaks Invititite at the Spa.

With The Moonlight won the race. McKulick collared stablemate Contemporary Art just in time to hold off the late bid of New Year’s Eve. With The Moonlight won her first graded race in England last August. She finished second in the Belmont Oaks. Walkathon was scratched. Appleby will look for another spot for With the Moonlight.  The Grade 3, $700,000 Jockey Club Oaks going 1 3/8 miles on September 17 during the Big A fall meet will be too far for her. The winner of the event will go to the Jockeying Club.com. It was the first time WithTheMoonlight had won a graded event.

The Moonlight won the Caesars Turf Triple yesterday. Buick rode at Saratoga for the first time and scored two winners. Ortiz, Jr. had no excuses for McKulick, who won Belmont Oaks. Live racing resumes Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. Eastern. The Tale of the Cat is the $135,000 race in Race 8.
