A new name emerged onto the Grand Slam stage in the women’s game at the Australian Open, as Aryna Sabelanka finally won one of the big prizes. She will be looking for a second major title success when the action moves to France in May, but will there be any stopping Iga Swiatek on her hunt for a third French Open success?

Women’s French Open 2023 Preview

All eyes will be set on the second Grand Slam of the tennis season, as play at the French Open gets underway in May. It is revered as one of the most difficult Grand Slams of the season, with the matches throughout the tournament taking an enormous toll on the bodies of athletes. The French Open is the only Grand Slam of the season to be played on a clay surface, which makes it slightly easier to whittle down the field.

Iga Swiatek is the clear player to start with when it comes to the event, as the Pole will be looking for a third French Open success in four years. She was an easy winner in 2022, beating Coco Gauff in straight sets in the final. Swiatek has a perfect game for the clay surface, and that is evident by the fact that she boasts a stunning 91% win rate at the Grand Slam.

Barbora Krejcikova looks like an immediate value play at the current prices, as the Czech is available at +4000. She was the winner of the Grand Slam in 2020. However, she was eliminated in the first round last year, and couldn’t make it past the fourth round at the Australian Open.

Ons Jabeur is a player that I think will win a Grand Slam this year, but that success is likely to come at Wimbledon in the summer. Coco Gauff may have reached the final last year, but I’ve been slightly disappointed with her Grand Slam performances when the pressure has been on. Sabalenka may have won the Australia Open, but she is yet to get past the third round at the French Open.

Women’s French Open 2023 Prediction

I think Swiatek is very difficult to oppose once again at the French Open this year. As well as the Pole, I’ll also be taking a chance on Elena Rybakina, who often performs well in France on the clay. Meanwhile, Maria Sakkari could be a player to watch, as she is one of a few stars that has bested Swiatek on the clay surface.
