World Cup 2022: England’s possible route to the final in Qatar

England have been drawn in Group B with Iran, Wales and USA. The top two teams from the group will progress to the knockout stage. England will play Iran in the opening game. They will then play the United States. Their final game will be a first ever 'Battle of Britain' at a World Cup finals. England have never previously faced Wales at the World Cups.

England play Iran on Monday 21 November at 1 pm, USA on Friday 25 November (7 pm), and Wales on Tuesday 29 November 7 pm.

England's possible route to the World Cup 2022 is as follows: England vs Iran on Monday 21 November (1pm), England v USA on Friday 25 November, and Wales v England on Tuesday 29 November.

England could play the runners-up of Group B at Al Bayt Stadium, Al Khor on Sunday 4 December. If they win the group, they will play against the winner of the Group A on Saturday 3 December at the Khalifa International Stadium.

England could face France in the World Cup quarter-final. France would need to win Group D and then overcome the runners-up of Group C to reach the last eight. Other potential opponents for England include Denmark, Argentina, Mexico or Poland. The last-eight fixture would take place on Sunday 10 December. England could also be paired with Argentina or Denmark in a different quarter.

If England are to reach the semi-final stage of this year's World Cup, they will play Spain, Belgium or Portugal. If they are runners-up in Group B, then they would play Brazil. Germany, who knocked England out at the World cup in 1990, is another possible opponent.

England went to the final of Euro 2020. They are the current leaders of Group B at the World Cup. Brazil, Argentina, France and Portugal could be their opponents in the finals. The Qatar World cup final is likely to be the last one involving Lionel Messi.
