World Cup 2022: What the Moroccan football team means to its fans

Morocco beat Canada to progress to the last 16 of a World Cup. It is only the second time in six attempts that Morocco has made it to this stage.

No member of the current squad was born in 1986 when Morocco last reached the last 16. They have 20 professional players from European leagues. Jordan's coach had labelled Morocco as the “dark horse of” the tournament. Ibtisam Amzil is supporting the team till the end. She lives in Doha. Her country is hosting the FIFA World cup. It's taking place in an Arab country for the first time. For her, it's meaningful as Morocco is the only remaining Arab team.
