World Cup Group H: How they got there, form and prediction as Cristiano Ronaldo kicks-off campaign

Portugal have never won the World Cup. They finished third in 1966 and fourth in 2006. Cristiano Ronaldo is a free agent after his contract with Manchester United was terminated on Tuesday. Portugal will play in the 2022 World cup in Qatar. They will face Ghana, South Korea and Uruguay in their group.

Portugal finished second in their Uefa qualification group behind Serbia. They beat Turkey 3-1 and North Macedonia 2-0 in the play-off final. Cristiano Ronaldo scored six goals in that group.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal are the first team to play in World Cup Group H.

Ghana qualified for the World Cup in Qatar. They topped their second-round qualifying group ahead of South Africa, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe. Ghana beat Nigeria on away goals in their two-legged play-off to reach the tournament.

Portugal won their pre-tournament friendly 4-0 against Nigeria. They won three of their six Nations League games, including 4 -0 victories over Switzerland and Czech Republic. But they also lost to the Czechs and Spain.

Ghana has had a tough year. They lost to Algeria, Morocco, Comoros and Gabon. Since then they have battled past Nigeria to reach the World Cup. Ghana drew 1-1 with Central African Republic in their Afcon qualifier.

Fernando Santos has been in charge of Portugal for eight years. He managed Greece between 2010 and 2014. Before that, he managed Porto, AEK Athens, Panathinaikos, Sporting Lisbon, Benfica and PAOK. Santos guided Portugal to the Euro 2016 title and the 2018-19 Nations League victory.

Otto Oddo was appointed as the Ghana national team manager in September 2021. He was hired immediately before the double-header with Nigeria. Odda has won just three of his nine matches in charge.

Portugal are preparing for a friendly against Spain. Cristiano Ronaldo is the star player. The team is full of talent, including Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Felix and João Cancelo.

Thomas Partey is Ghana's main man. Tariq Lamptey, Andre, Jordan, Inaki Williams, Mohammed Kudus, Salisu and Amartey are also in the squad.

Portugal beat Argentina 2-1 in the group stage of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the only goal of that game.
