Yankees fans had unreasonable hopes for Josh Donaldson

Josh Donaldson's numbers dropped further in 2022, his age-36 season. Donald was traded to the Yankees in exchange for Gary Sánchez and Gio Urshela. Urs Hellla played for Minnesota in the 2022 season and had a good season, but he was not a star player. Miguel Cabrera, Albert Pujols, Derek Jeter and Andruw Jones all had similar problems at their ages. The Yankees got their hands on Josh Donaldon a year too late. They were never going to get Mike Trout in a trade for the 2021 versions of Gary and Urssela, so they should have expected him to be a better player than he turned out to have been.
