York countdown: Deauville Legend on course for Great Voltigeur

Deauville Legend is on course for the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York. James Ferguson is also eyeing up a possible tilt at the Melbourne Cup later in the year. Deauville Legend has already won the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket's July Festival and finished second in two of the summer's big meetings. He is already a gelding and cannot run in St Leger at Doncaster next month. Ferguson sees the three-year-old's step up to Group Two company on the Knavesmire as preparation for Flemington in autumn.

Nashwa is unlikely to take part in the Juddmonte International at York next week. She is a Group One winner in France thanks to the Prix de Diane. John Gosden-trained filly added the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood. Hollie Doyle's partner is owned by Imad Al Sagar. Teddy Grimthorpe was once chairman of York. The Prix l'Opera is the next obvious target for the fillie.
