2022 SB Nation Off-season GM Simulation

30 SB Nation baseball writers took part in the SBN GM Simulation. They were preparing the 2023 roster. The team was given a recommended budget. Some teams spent more than their target. Bobby Dalbec was traded to the simulated Washington Nationals. Carl Edwards Jr. was bought in exchange. He is making $1.6 million for 20 23 and would hit free agency. It was fun, if frustrating. For the real team, the trade was not possible. However, it was a good learning experience. i.e. the players were not used as they were supposed to be.

2022 SB Nation Off-season GM Simulation was played. Alex Verdugo was not available. Triston Casas was definitely not. Andrew Meadows, Garrett Cooper, Miguel Rojas and Brian Anderson were offered for prospects. Chris Sale was offered but his price was too high.

Red Sox sign Joey Gallo for 2 years, $34 million. Galla was brutal in New York, but his .211/.336/.497 over 7 seasons in Texas is more in line with expectations for his performance. He didn't make the FanGraphs Top 50 free agents, so that's a strike against him.

David Robertson was dominant in the 2020 Olympics and with the Rays and the Cubs. He's back from Tommy John surgery and has more life in his arm.

2022 SB Nation Off-season GM Simulation shows Chris Bassitt signing with the Red Sox for 3 years, $60 million.

Noah Syndergaard is a reclamation project starter for 2023. He's 30 and has potential to be a good starter. The Red Sox will sign him for 2 years, $28 million.

Rich Hill signed a one-year contract with the Red Sox for $4 million.

Red Sox sign Michael Wacha for 2 years, $16 million. Wacha bounced back with the Red Sox and was probably the staff ace in 2022. He has a 4.14 FIP and a 3.32 ERA.

Red Sox sign Will Smith for 1 year, $2.5 million. The team has a payroll of $182 million for the purposes of the sim. Trevor Story is the shortstop and Christian Arroyo takes over at second base.

2022 SB Nation Off-season GM Simulation is based on the Boston Red Sox. It's not a dream team, but it's a better team than in 2022. Winter Meetings start tomorrow.
