Since the Dubai World Cup was staged at Meydan (2010), we’ve got the key trends and stats to help find the horses with the best winning profiles to win Saturday’s $12m race. Use these to narrow the field and then place your bets with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK.

All Of the Last 12 Winners Ran Within The Last 8 Weeks

Having a recent run is key when looking for your Dubai World Cup horse as ALL of the last 12 winners had raced in the last 8 week. A bit of leeway here is advised – but really, we are looking for horses that ran 60+ days ago to avoid.

We can also take this ‘days last run’ stat a bit further as 83% of the last 12 winners also raced in the last 4 weeks. So, we are looking for any horses now that hadn’t run in the last 28-30 days.

A lot ran in the Saudi Cup on Feb 25th (more on that below), so they are okay – but these ones are not. Algiers (50), T O Keynes (52) and Ushba Tesoro (52).

83% Of the Last 12 Dubai World Cup Winners Had Won Over 1m2f Before

Next up is to look a past winners over this 1m2f Dubai World Cup trip. Again, most will fit the bill here, but the horses yet to win over this distance in the line-up are – Bendog, Super Corinto, Emblem Road and Vela Azul.

Could The 2023 Saudi Cup Provide the Clues?

Last month’s Saudi Cup – the world’s richest horse race – is certainly worth looking back on ahead of Saturday’s Dubai World Cup.

Why? Well, ALL of the first seven home are back in action. The winner that day that landed the $20m race was Panthalassa for Japan, with last year’s Dubai World Cup winner Country Grammer back in fast-finishing second – beaten just 3/4 in the end.

We then saw Cafe Pharoah (3rd), Geoglyph (4th), Crown Pride (5th), Emblem Road (6th) and Jun Light Bolt (7th) – with Remorse (9th).

Horses That Finished 1st Or 2nd Last Time Have Won 10 Of the Last 12

We now need to look for the horses heading into the race in form – well, off the back of a 1st or 2nd last time out.

Of the 15 runners 8 of the runners tick this Dubai World Cup trend – Super Corinto (1st), Panthalassa (1st), Ushba Tesoro (1st), T O Keynes (2nd), Algiers (1st) and last year’s winner Country Grammer (2nd).

While, 66% Of The Last 12 Winners DIDN’T Win Last Time Out

This is another trend that we can take to another level too – if you want to narrow your search further. As winning last time out isn’t always a plus. 8 of the last 12 Dubai World Cup winners failed to win their most recent race.

So, if we look at the horses above (the 1st and 2nd lot), this leaves us with just T O Keynes and Country Grammer.

What About the Dubai World Cup Draw?

Five of the last 12 winners came between stalls 5-8 inclusive – which would be a plus for Vela Azul, T O Keynes, Bendog and Ushba Tesoro.

While 80% of the last 10 winners also came from stalls 6 or higher – suggesting that being drawn low isn’t ideal. Those drawn between 1-5 this year are Remorse (1), Emblem Road (2), Jun Light Bolt (3), Salute The Soldier (4) and Vela Azul (5).

Country Grammer did, however, defy the above draw trend last year – winning from stall 4 – and is drawn in 14 this time. With the second favourite Algiers drawn 13 and the Saudi Cup winner Panthalassa in 15.

75% Of Recent Dubai World Cup Winners Were Rated Between 119-123

The cream often rides to the top in this race too – it often does in most top Grade 1 races to be fair.

This is backed up with 75% of the last 12 winners rated between 119 and 123. Of the 2023 Dubai World Cup runners, this is a thumbs up for Algiers (120), Panthalassa (120), Country Grammer (121), Vela Azul (122).

Jockey Frankie Dettori and Trainer Bob Baffert Have Won the Dubai World Cup Four Times Each

In terms of trainers and jockeys to look for then normally we’d be looking for Godolphin runners trained by Saeed Bin Suroor. But neither have a runner this year. However, we do have two-time winning jockey Christophe Soumillon riding – he gets the leg-up on outsider Bendog.

Plus, we’ve also got top jockey Frankie Dettori in the race – he’s won the Dubai World Cup 4 times before. And we’ve also trainer Bob Baffert, who also has four wins to his name in the race. The pair team up again with Country Grammer, who won the spoils for the duo 12 months ago.

Just One Previous Back-to-Back Dubai World Cup Winner

Country Grammer is ticking a lot of the big trends, but there is one that he has to overcome. Since the race was first running back in 1996, there has only been one back-to-back winner. That double win came with Thunder Snow, but it was fairly recently in 2018 and 2019.

Dubai World Cup Trends Tips

Overall, it’s hard to get away from last year’s winner COUNTRY GRAMMER.

This Bob Baffert runner ticks most of the main trends we’ve highlighted above and will also have the ‘Frankie Factor’ in his favour. He was a fast-finishing second last time in the Saudi Cup and probably would have won in a few more strides.

Yes, we’ve only had one repeat winner, but the plus is that came in the last 4 years. He’s taken to give Dettori a memorable fifth win in the Dubai World Cup, which would make him the winning most jockey in the race. A perfect way to end his final season in the saddle.

Where Were the Dubai World Cup Winners Trained?

The sole GB-trained winners saw the Sir Michael Stoute horse Singspiel win the second running back in 1997. However, the 9 wins of Saeed Bin Suroor could be argued as UK successes with the UAE hander training in Newmarket at the time.
