Allen Still Favored in NFL MVP Odds; Lamar, Mahomes & Hurts All Getting Short Odds

As for Jackson, it’s the second time this season he’s been unable to stem a rally against the Ravens. Baltimore allowed 28 fourth-quarter points in a 42-38 Week 2 loss to Miami. Whether it’s his fault or not, being associated with failure of that magnitude isn’t a path to the NFL MVP.

Mahomes Wins Showdown With Brady

Chiefs QB Mahomes won a showdown with Tampa Bay’s Tom Brady in a rematch of Super Bowl 55. He passed for 249 yards and three TDs. Mahomes and Jackson own a share of the NFL lead in TD passes. Each has thrown for 11 scores. At 108.4, Mahomes is second in the NFL in passer rating.

As for Brady, it was like watching Muhammad Ali near the end of his legendary career in the ring. There were times when Brady did things at 45 that no other player has achieved in NFL history. And then there were cringe-worthy moments where he looked every bit his age.

Hurts Puts Hurt On Jaguars

A look at two next-gen MVP contenders took place in Philadelphia. Hurts rallied the Eagles, favorites in the NFC East odds, from a 14-0 deficit for a 29-21 win. Hurts threw for 204 yards. He ran for 24 and a TD, his fourth of the season.

In a losing cause, Jacksonville QB Trevor Lawrence passed for 174 yards and 2 TDs. Still, his NFL MVP odds shortened from +5000 to +3500.

Their NFL MVP Odds Are Going Long

While Hurts has been so good, the news isn’t as good for other NFL starting QBs from Alabama. Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa and New England’s Mac Jones both look to be out long-term with serious injuries.

Jones is now at +15000 in the NFL MVP odds. Tagovailoa went from +1400 to off the board. His backup, Teddy Bridgewater, can be had for a betting line of +15000.

Two multiple MVP winners – Aaron Rodgers of the Packers (+1800 to +2000) and Brady (+3000 to +4000) – continue to drift further away from the prize. Matt Ryan of the Colts, the 2016 NFL MVP, also lengthened from +10000 to +15000 following another poor performance.

Who’s the NFL MVP Choice?

It’s four weeks into the NFL season now, and the view is beginning to grow clearer in the NFL MVP race. In recent years, the league has witnessed coming out parties in MVP seasons for Mahomes and Jackson.

This is projected to be the year of the Bills. Buffalo continues to hold forth as favorite in the Super Bowl odds. And as long as Buffalo stays on top, there’s going to be a sense that this will be Allen’s first MVP year.

Bills Mafia may need to make a difficult choice, however, in rooting interests. Not since Peyton Manning of the 2009 Indianapolis Colts has a player won both the MVP and the Super Bowl in the same NFL season.
