Buffalo Bills take care of business but not their betting backers

Buffalo Bills advance to the divisional round after beating Miami Dolphins 34-31. The Dolphins were a 13.5-point favourite. Since 2010, double-digit favourites in the post-season went 12-2 against the spread. The previous heaviest point spread favourite in a wild-card game came a year ago when the Chiefs covered as 12 points favourite against Steelers with a 42-21 win.

The Giants beat the Vikings 31-24 on Sunday. Blake Purdy is the third rookie quarterback to be favoured by a touchdown or more and to cover. The Cowboys are 2.5 points favourites heading into Tampa Bay. The first four wild-card games went over the total in over/under wagering. For the first time since 2009, each of the six wild cards was a rematch of at least one previous game. In those games, the favourites were 3-6 against the spread. All four of those wild card games were won by the underdogs.
