Challow Novices' Hurdle: Hermes Allen destroys rivals at Newbury to go 7/2 favourite for Ballymore at Cheltenham

Hermes Allen won the Coral Challow Novices' Hurdle at Newbury. It was Paul Nicholls' third successive victory in the Grade One feature. He is now 7/2 favourite for Ballymore at Cheltenham. Nicholl's horse is co-owned by Sir Alex Ferguson. He will probably go straight to Cheltonham after the trial race in a month. The trial is to give them a nice gap until the Festival. They will have a chat. Nicholas won it with Denman in 2006.

Grumpy Charley won the Mandarin Handicap Chase. He was trained by Chris Honour. Shanty Alley lost by three-quarters of a length to the 15/2 winner. Hermes Allen is favourite for Ballymore at Cheltenham.

Jet Powered was beaten by Jupiter Du Gite at the start of the Supreme Novices' Hurdle. Gamaret made his seasonal and chasing bow and won the Coral First For Horse Racing Handicap Chase. Blenkinsop is becoming a force to be reckoned with over hurdles. Midnight Ginger won her fifth career success for trainer Andrew Martin. The winner was Charlie Deutsch's Coastal Path gelding. The horse sold his pump business in Port Talbot 18 months ago. He sold it to Andrew John. It was his first time racing.
