Cheltenham Festival 2023: What grey horses are running and odds

Cheltenham 2023 is here and the event draws punters from all over the world, with many asking the question, ‘what grey horses are running at Cheltenham today?’.

Greys feature in the opener on Tuesday March 14, along with 40 other grey horses set to take to the field this week.

Grey horses odds for Cheltenham Festival 2023

Supreme
Il Etait Temps 6/1
Doctor Bravo 22/1

Il Etait Temps represents one of many entries from the trainer Willie Mullins.

And this grey running at Cheltenham has already won against Facile Vega, the favourite by over nine lengths.

Doctor Bravo is an outsider having placed in two of three of hurdle attempts but did win back in January for Gordon Elliott under jockey Davy Russell.

Arkle
Straw Fan Jack 66/1

Boodles
Bad 8/1
Action Motion 33/1

Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys’ Novices’ Chase
Gaillard Du Mesnil 11/10
Bellatrixsa 100/1

Gaillard Du Mesnil wears the familiar Mrs J Donnelly colours (black and yellow checks), which are going to be prominent this year with the likes of Shishkin and State Man also out for this owner.

Gaillard Du Mesnil though is trained by Mullins too and is a seven-year-old gelding with strong chances.

He’s been in top form in all of his eight runs but especially last year has bumped into numerous Grade 1 behemoths, including the Turners favourite Mighty Potter, L’Homme Presse in last year’s Brown Advisory Chase and Galopin Des Champs the Gold Cup favourite back in February 2022.

He’s the big favourite for the big race for a reason and should justify that price.

Ballymore
Ho My Lord 25/1
Marble Sands 50/1

Browns Advisory
Ramillies 16/1

Coral Cup
Irish Hill 16/1
Fil Dor 16/1
Elvis Mail 80/1

Irish Hill is a determined grey gelding at just five-years-old and also holds an entry into Friday’s Martin Pipe, the last race of the festival at 5.30pm.

Trained by Paul Nicholls and ridden by Harry Cobden going into the festival is a big bonus as they are both operating at a high win-rate, with Nicholls winning ten out of 26 races in the last two weeks.

Cross Country
Snow Leopardess 20/1
Diesel D’Allier 33/1

Snow Leopardess is an incredibly popular grey mare, who was the favourite for last year’s Grand National.

She had the potential to be the first mother to win the Aintree showpiece but was unfortunately pulled up.

But she’s now definitely back to her best and even came an encouraging second last time out to Quick Wave at Haydock, which was also a Grade 3 over 3m4f.

Grand Annual
Riviere D’etel 20/1
Elixir De Nutz 25/1

Turners
Unexpected Party 100/1

Pertemps
Thanksforthehelp 6/1
An Tailliur 14/1
Wakool 33/1

Thanksforthehelp has a huge chance of being one of the greys to win at Cheltenham Festival 2023 on Thursday.

At just 5/1 to win the Pertemps for trainer David Pipe while wearing the popular colours of owner John P McManus, in the gold and green hoops and the white cap.

The gelding had a wind surgery in January which has instantly seen improvement over races across longer distances.

And he won well at Chepstow last time out and could well progress further for that, as wind operations tend to require a couple of runs before you see the full effect.

Lossiemouth is one of the most popular horses this year and is a joint-favourite for the opener on Friday.

Also trained by Mullins, Lossiemouth is a four-year-old filly who loves the soft ground and will appreciate the rain across the week.

She’s got her work cut out for her though against her stablemate Blood Destiny.

The odds might better indicate her chances closer to the time.
