Coyotes vs. Ducks prediction: NHL odds, picks, best bets

The Anaheim Ducks put together one of the best stretches of the NHL season from any team over their most recent road trip.

Anaheim went 4-0-0 and scored wins over the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets to bring their record to an impressive 5-4-0.

The Ducks will look to make it five wins on the spin when they host the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday night.

Anaheim is a +110 underdog.

While the Ducks deserve a ton of credit for putting together a perfect road trip — Anaheim closed as an underdog in each game — it does need to be mentioned that the way Greg Cronin’s team achieved those results isn’t quite sustainable.

The Ducks were impressive in an overtime win in Columbus, but their other three wins saw them catch plenty of breaks.

Anaheim caught a flat spot for the Flyers in which Philadelphia played its struggling backup goaltender.

Then, the Ducks put together a historic comeback against the Bruins in which they were down two goals in the dying minutes of the third period.

And the win over Pittsburgh was one of the most peculiar results you’ll see all season.

Pittsburgh tallied 6.75 expected goals to Anaheim’s 3.00 xG and still found a way to lose in regulation.

It should be reiterated that Anaheim deserves credit for winning, but these victories shouldn’t cause anybody to dramatically upgrade the Ducks.

The Coyotes have been up and down to start the season, but that’s to be expected from a team that was projected for just 80 points before the puck dropped on the new campaign.

Arizona’s had some impressive performances — an upset over the Devils and their most recent 8-1 victory over the Blackhawks — but has also endured some turbulent losses.

One of Arizona’s four wins this season came against Anaheim in the Coyotes’ home opener.

The Desert Dogs closed as a -185 favorite in that tilt, which is a far cry from where Arizona is priced Wednesday night.

Betting on the NHL?

The general rule is home-ice advantage is worth about 20 cents to the moneyline, so when you bake that into the number you’ll see the market has adjusted too much thanks to Anaheim’s recent road trip.

The Bet: Arizona Coyotes -130 (BetMGM Sportsbook)
