Devils vs. Wild prediction: NHL odds, pick Tuesday, March 21

The Minnesota Wild are up to their old tricks.

The Wild are 12-1-3 over their last 16 contests and have allowed just 34 goals in that span.

This brilliant run of form has not only solidified Minnesota’s place in the NHL playoffs but has put the Wild within one point of Dallas at the top of the Central Division.

Rather than get caught up in the hype around the Wild, now comes the part where bettors need to scrutinize this stretch and find out if it’s for real or not.

Devils vs. Wild prediction

While the Wild’s defensive play has been strong, a lot of Minnesota’s recent success can be attributed to red-hot goaltending from Filip Gustavsson and Marc-Andre Fleury.

Gustavsson and Fleury have basically split the workload over the last month, and each has been terrific, combining for a .933 save percentage and a +13.4 Goals Saved Above Expected (GSAx).

And while the Wild do a great job making life easy on their netminders, those numbers do feel unsustainable.

And if the goaltending does come down a bit, the Wild aren’t playing well enough at five-on-five to make up for it.

Add in the fact that Minnesota’s best offensive player, Kirill Kaprizov, is out and you have a recipe for the Wild to come back down to earth.

The Devils have been one of the best five-on-five teams all season and look like good value in a sell-high spot on the Wild.
