Fall SPorts Preview: Mix of youth, veterans to lead Wolves football in ‘22

Sequim's football team is more experienced this year than last year. Erik Wiker is the dean of North Olympic Peninsula football coaches. Sequim struggled last season, but is now more prepared this time around. The team won a few games, including the Rainshadow Rumble series. The upperclassmen wear purple jerseys at practice and the underclassman wear gold. They also had a scrimmage with Port Angeles. It's Wikers 19th season as Sequin's head coach. He's been able to coach more this preseason than he did all of last years.

Lars Wiker is back at quarterback for the Wolves. He earned all-Olympic League first team honors as a sophomore. Aiden Gockerell will return at running back and on defense. Isaiah Moore will be the quarterback's top target. Faas Christianson will play tight end and linebacker. Dylan Bowen, center, and Paul Burrows will start at right tackle. Nick Jaggar will also start on the line. Ayden Holland is a third-year starter on a young offensive line that saw three freshmen start last season. Sam Fitzgerald worked hard this offseason. The team will use him in the skill position mix with Ricky Jennings.

Sequim opens the 2022 campaign at home against Forks on Friday, Sept. 2. The Wolves open the Olympic League schedule at their home on Sept, 16 against Bainbridge. They also play Tenino on September 9. Before the game, the school will celebrate naming the stadium for a S’Klallam word pronounced “stah-chung” and meaning ‘wolf‘ and the field to Myron Teterud  Field.
